Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s husband, Ryan Scott Anderson, has expressed his intention to treat her to a special outing following her recent release from prison. Anderson, a middle school special education teacher from Louisiana, plans to take Blanchard on a date, including a homemade gumbo dinner, gifts, and a romantic night out. This will be the first time Blanchard, 32, experiences such an outing, according to Anderson’s interview with People magazine.
Blanchard was released on parole after serving 85% of her 10-year sentence for second-degree murder. She had conspired with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Godejohn was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2015. Experts believe that Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen by proxy, a behavioral disorder where a caregiver fabricates or induces illness in another person.
Throughout her life, Blanchard was subjected to unnecessary medical treatments orchestrated by her mother, including the use of a feeding tube, removal of salivary glands through surgery, and being confined to a wheelchair. Medical professionals later determined that Blanchard had no underlying medical conditions and could walk.
Anderson initiated communication with Blanchard in 2020 by sending her a letter while she was in prison. The couple got married two years later. Since her release, Blanchard has been active on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, amassing a combined total of 12.1 million followers at the time of publication.
Blanchard’s story has been previously documented in the HBO documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest” (2017) and the Hulu limited series “The Act” (2019). A three-night Lifetime docuseries titled “The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard” is set to premiere on Friday. Additionally, Blanchard will be publishing a book titled “Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom” on January 9.
