Migrants Found Living in Bronx Business After FDNY Responds to Complaint About E-Bikes

Inspectors from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) discovered dozens of migrants living inside a commercial building in the Bronx after responding to a complaint about illegally stored e-bikes. The two-story building on East Kingsbridge Road in the Fordham section of the Bronx was found to have beds, extension cords, e-bikes, space heaters, and hot plates throughout both floors. Department of Buildings inspectors reported 34 beds on the first floor and 11 beds in the cellar, tightly packed together. Due to hazardous conditions, lack of natural light and ventilation, and severe crowding, the DOB issued a vacate order for the store. The migrants, identified as Senegalese immigrants, were relocated to a city migrant service center. The owner of the building, who is also the owner of a Queens building where migrants were previously found living illegally, is facing multiple violations and fines. Local residents expressed surprise and concern upon learning about the living conditions inside the store.
