Shortlists for Capital Markets, Banking and Finance, and Project Finance Deals of the Year Announced

Latin Lawyer has announced the shortlists for the capital markets, banking and finance, and project finance categories of their 18th annual Deal of the Year Awards. The winners will be revealed at a charity awards ceremony to be held at Hotel Unique in São Paulo on May 9. The shortlisted deals include:

Capital Markets:
1. BRF’s largest equity offering in Brazil in 2023, with counsel provided by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Lefosse, and representation for Banco JP Morgan, Banco Bradesco BBI, Banco BTG Pactual, Citigroup Global Markets Brasil, Banco Itaú BBA, Banco Safra, UBS Brasil, and XP Investimentos by Allen & Overy LLP and BMA Advogados.
2. Mexican real estate business Vesta’s IPO on NYSE, with counsel provided by Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and Ritch Mueller y Nicolau, SC, and representation for Citigroup Global Markets, BofA Securities, Barclays Capital, Morgan Stanley & Co, Scotia Capital (USA), and UBS Securities by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Creel, García-Cuéllar, Aiza y Enríquez SC.
3. CAF’s largest-ever US dollar offer in a $1.75 billion deal, with counsel provided by Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and representation for BofA Securities, Daiwa Capital Markets Europe Limited, Goldman Sachs International, and HSBC Securities (USA) by Clifford Chance LLP and D’Empaire.

Banking and Finance:
1. StoneCo’s loan for women-led businesses, with counsel provided by Milbank and representation for the US International Development Finance Corporation by Mayer Brown LLP and Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown, and Trench Rossi Watanabe.
2. Lundin’s refinancing of a Chilean mine in an $800 million deal, with counsel provided by Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP and Bruchou & Funes de Rioja, and representation for Mineração Maracá Indústria e Comércio by Bofill Mir Abogados and Veirano Advogados.
3. TC Energía Mexicana’s $2.3 billion financing, with counsel provided by White & Case LLP and representation for Scotiabank, BBVA México, BMO Capital Markets, Mizuho Bank, Banco Inbursa, Bank of America, Bank of China, HSBC Bank, ATB Financial, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Royal Bank of Canada, and Deutsche Bank AG by Latham & Watkins LLP and Ritch Mueller y Nicolau, SC.

Project Finance: Energy and Natural Resources:
1. IFC’s first investment in the lithium sector with an Argentine project, with counsel provided by Shearman & Sterling LLP and Allende & Brea, and representation for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) by Herbert Smith Freehills LLP and Mitrani Caballero & Ruiz Moreno.
2. Macquarie and Norsk Hydro’s funds for a renewables joint venture in Brazil, with counsel provided by Allen & Overy LLP and Machado Meyer Advogados, and representation for Green Investment Group (GIG) by Machado Meyer Advogados and BNP Paribas, Banco Santander, Citibank, HSBC, JP Morgan, Natixis, and Société Générale by White & Case LLP and Dias Carneiro Advogados.
3. AES Dominicana’s landmark IDB Invest financing for solar assets, with counsel provided by Paul Hastings LLP and NautaDutilh, and representation for IDB Invest, JP Morgan Chase, Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior, and Scotiabank by Clifford Chance LLP and Pellerano Nadal Law & Consulting.
