Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team Provides Essential Communications Support for Winter Search and Rescue Training Exercise

Verizon’s Frontline Crisis Response Team recently played a crucial role in supporting the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office 2024 Winter Search and Rescue Training exercise in Northern California. This exercise, aimed at training Shasta County Search & Rescue, an organization primarily staffed by volunteers, encompassed various aspects of winter search and rescue, including avalanche probing, orienteering, safe operation of heavy equipment, medical treatment in winter conditions, and victim stabilization and transportation over snow.

During the multi-day exercise, the Verizon team delivered a Satellite Picocell on a Trailer (SPOT) equipped with satellite backhaul, cellular, and Wi-Fi capabilities, along with other Verizon Frontline solutions, to nearly 100 first responders and volunteers. These solutions proved instrumental in enabling the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office to establish a command post at the remote training site. SPOTs, known for their rapid deployability, provided critical voice and data services in the challenging connectivity conditions of the dense forests and mountains of Northern California.

Collaborating with public safety agencies during training exercises like this allows the Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team to gain valuable insights and continue meeting the evolving needs of first responders in real-world emergencies. The team provides on-demand, emergency assistance to government agencies and emergency responders on a 24/7 basis. They set up portable cell sites, Wi-Fi hotspots, charging stations, and other Verizon Frontline devices and solutions that enhance communication capabilities and boost network performance.

Verizon Frontline, developed over three decades of partnership with public safety officials and agencies, is an advanced network and technology specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of first responders. Verizon Communications Inc., one of the world’s leading providers of technology and communications services, generated revenues of $134.0 billion in 2023. With its headquarters in New York City and a global presence, Verizon offers data, video, and voice services on its award-winning networks and platforms, catering to customers’ demands for mobility, reliable network connectivity, security, and control.

The Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team’s involvement in the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office 2024 Winter Search and Rescue Training exercise highlights their commitment to supporting first responders and ensuring effective communication in critical situations. Through their innovative solutions and continuous collaboration, Verizon continues to empower public safety agencies with the tools they need to save lives and protect communities.
